POSITION TITLE: Elementary Special Education Teacher (1 - Self Contained; 1 - Resource Room)
QUALIFICATIONS: Must meet AR licensure requirements; Special Education Licensure required
LOCATION: District Wide
REPORTS TO: Building Principal & Director of Special Education
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 193 Day employment with benefits as specified in employee contract.
BEGINNING: January, 2020
**A $1,000 Experience Stipend will be issued for NEW HIRES. hired after October 1, 2019, with three or more years of verified teaching experience. This stipend will be issued one time after the first full semester is complete.**
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Develop and maintain a classroom environment conducive to effective learning.
Take reasonable caution to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities.
Maintain accurate, complete records as required by law, district policy and administrative regulations.
Assist in the selection of books, equipment and other instructional materials.
Responsible for supervising the proper usage of teaching supplies, classroom equipment and other instructional materials.
Ability to be physically active all day with children indoors and outdoors.
Observe student behavior and learning, communicating observations regularly.
Strong communication with parents.
Maintain the orderly arrangement of materials and equipment within the classroom.
Assist children with preparing for and moving to other classrooms, school activities, outside activities and arrival and departure from school.
Help children with clothing, grooming, health habits and bathroom activities.
Notify immediately appropriate personnel of any evidence of substance abuse, child abuse, child neglect and severe medical conditions.
Maintain a safe working condition and safely operate electronic and other equipment needed to carry out job functions and responsibilities.
Display ethical and professional behavior in working with students, parents, school personnel and outside agencies associated with the school.
Additional related duties/responsibilities.
May plan and coordinate the work of aides, teacher assistants and other paraprofessionals.

OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS
Maintain emotional control under stress.
Implement a variety of effective instructional strategies consistent with lesson objectives.
Diagnose and evaluates student abilities and progress in a timely and consistent manner.
Monitor student progress and adjust instruction accordingly.
Plan a program of study that meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of the students.
Create a classroom environment that is conducive to learning.
Assess the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and provide progress reports as required.
Abide by state statutes, school board policies and regulations.
Attend meetings and performs duties as assigned by administrators or supervisors.
Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy and administrative regulation.
Remain current on instructional practices in Special Education.
Must have the ability to lift at least 50 pounds occasionally.
May be required to physically move students or equipment weighing up to 50 lbs. May be require to position students in specialized equipment and or/ change diapers as needed.
Ability to endure prolonged standing, walking, sitting, kneeling, occasional reaching above the head or the shoulders, bending, squatting.
