Dorchester County Public Schools is accepting applications for a Food Service Manager whose primary areas of responsibility are to supervise the Food Services Program in all cafeterias of schools with emphasis on sound management and nutrition. The incumbent will demonstrate principled leadership and decision making while assuming a leadership role. This is a 12-month full time position located at the Central Office.
Recommends and writes policies and regulations governing the Dorchester County Public Schools’ Food Services Program. Works with principals and managers in carrying out all aspects of the program;
Administers all regulations concerning free and reduced-price meals; community eligibility plan, or other government programs;
Plans menus which conform to government standards and offer healthy choices for students;
Develops and maintains a comprehensive staffing plan in cooperation with managers, principals, and other appropriate personnel to achieve the program’s mission;
Monitors budget and financial activities and ensures cafeteria operations are properly accounted for and that adequate internal controls are in place;
Supervises the bidding, procurement, and distribution of food, commodities, supplies, and equipment;
Develops and maintains relationships with principals and managers ensuring an efficient and effective program that meets the needs of Dorchester County Public Schools;
Interview and evaluate food service employees;
Designs and conducts in-service training programs for food service employees;
Coordinates public relation activities, develops and implements marketing programs to promote healthy eating;
Works as a liaison with the Maryland State Department of Education;
Annually updates Dorchester County Public School meal sites with Maryland Department of Education/Child Nutrition Programs.
Completes monthly meal claims for Dorchester County Public School with Maryland Department of Education/Child and Nutrition Programs.
Completes and reports annual enrollment and direct certification to Maryland State Department of Education/Child Nutrition Programs. Completes Maryland State Compensatory Education Report.
Administers and monitors Summer Feeding Meal sites throughout Dorchester County in accordance with Maryland Department of Education/Child and Nutrition Programs.
Seeks available marketplace grants and completes grant writing activities for food service equipment.
Ensure conformance to all Federal., State, and Local County laws governing food safety and food safety handling including HACCP compliance and bi-annual Health Department Inspections.
Performs such other tasks and assumes such other responsibilities as the Superintendent or designee may assign from time to time.
Bachelor’s degree, with academic major / concentration in: Food & Nutrition, Food Service Management, Dietetics, Family & Consumer Sciences, Nutrition Education, Culinary Arts, Business, or a related field; AND at least two years of relevant school nutrition programs experience;
Bachelor’s degree, in any academic major / concentration, AND a State-recognized certificate for school nutrition directors;
Associates’ degree, or equivalent educational experience, with academic major / concentration in: Food & Nutrition, Food Service Management, Dietetics, Family & Consumer Sciences, Nutrition Education, Culinary Arts, Business, or a related field AND at least two years of relevant school nutrition programs experience;
Experience in food service administration or related field with a strong background in business preferred; five years of progressive managerial experience in food service administration for a public-school system or other large organization;
Thorough knowledge of all local, state, and federal regulatory Food Service requirements;
Strong interpersonal skills, team orientation and participative management style;
Knowledge of current point-of-sale accountability systems; proficient in all Microsoft Office applications.

IBM-compatible computers are used throughout the system in individual classrooms as well as strategically placed computer labs. There are courses in Technology Simulations, Keyboarding, Computer Applications, and Computerized Accounting. Every classroom has access to the Microsoft Office Products as well as to the Internet.
The Dual Enrollment Program with Chesapeake College and University of Maryland Eastern Shore offers the opportunity for the students who wish to get started on their college credits.
Family Support Services Resource Center for Families and Schools is designed to support children with disabilities from birth to 21. The center provides the skills and knowledge to enable families and children to understand the Special Education process.
