Pea Ridge Public School Position Description 


Position Title: Intermediate School Counselor

Department: Counseling

Reports to: Director of Counseling 


Summary: To define and focus the comprehensive school counseling program based on the school’s academic, attendance and behavioral data. Identifying student needs through this data and consulting with administrators directs the program development. Job duties also include collaboration with teachers and parents on early identification and intervention of student’s academic and social/emotional needs which are essential in removing barriers to learning and developing skills and behaviors critical for academic achievement. 


Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Other duties may be assigned 

  • Development, management, and delivery of a comprehensive school counseling program 
  • Communicates the goals of the comprehensive school counseling program to administrators and stakeholders 
  • Accurately and appropriately interprets and utilizes student data 
  • Aligns programs and curriculum to state standards 
  • Collaborates with parents/guardians and educators to assist students with educational planning (provide academic support) 
  • Provides individual and group counseling to students with identified concerns and needs. 
  • Help students begin the career exploration process 
  • Educate students about self-awareness and self-esteem 
  • Teach problem solving and conflict resolution skills 
  • Make referrals to outside services when necessary 
  • Consults and collaborates effectively with Director of Counseling, administration, parents/guardians, teachers, and other educational/community resources regarding students with identified concerns and needs 
  • Provide support and assistance to students and families in crisis and emergency situations 
  • Implements an effective referral and follow-up process 
  • Participates in professional development activities to improve knowledge and skills 
  • Uses available technology resources to enhance the school counseling program 
  • Monitors student academic performance, behavior and attendance and assists with appropriate interventions 
  • Collects and analyzes data to guide program direction and emphasis 
  • ? Conducts a yearly program audit to review extent of program implementation

Education and/or Experience: Bachelor’s Degree in Counseling


Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Valid Arkansas Teaching License and Counseling Endorsement
