To develop in each pupil skills that are fundamental to good communication; to develop appreciation of social studies; to motivate pupils to read widely for information and recreation; to discover and develop special talents of pupils in the field of Social Studies. Qualifications: •Bachelor’s or Master’s preferred •Valid Arkansas teaching certification in secondary social studies (History) •At least one (1) to three (3) years of relevant experience preferred •Measurable evidence of driving student achievement gains •Ability to work effectively in a team environment and the willingness and desire to support others in doing their best work •High expectations – believe deeply that all students can learn and succeed •Team player – communicate openly and honestly with staff members •Optimistic attitude – demonstrate the resiliency needed to excel
Responsibilities: •Develops, obtains, and archives materials for the social studies program, including, but not limited to: primary source material, multi-media presentations, and lesson plans •Uses hands-on instructional methods and encourage critical thinking •Excellent organizational and personnel skills •Possesses creativity, able to inspire students’ trust, understand students’ individual needs, demonstrates cultural sensitivity and tolerates stress •Knowledge of State Common Core Curriculum and adopted guidelines •Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with students, school & district staff, and patrons •Communicates with parents and school counselors on pupil progress •Participates in social studies curriculum and other developmental programs •Identifies pupil needs, and cooperates with other professional staff members in assessing and helping pupils solve learning problems •Models instruction without being abrasive or judgmental •Uses a variety of technologies including appropriate software programs
