Job Description

SUMMARY – The position requires exceptional accounting and analytical skills to perform general accounting functions, compliance and control, audit support and financial reporting. Assist Comptroller in examining, analyzing, and preparing financial records and statement for the district and state and federal reporting. Provide input and advice on financial matters including systems used to track and record cost and expenses.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Business with accounting coursework and 3 years accounting experience
  • Knowledge of all facets of bookkeeping, including coding, purchase order system, tax reporting, budgeting and financial statement preparation
  • Competent in Microsoft Office Suite software
  • Ability to read and comprehend written instructions, policies, and procedures.
  • Attentive to details emphasizing accuracy, a sense of accountability and display integrity in their account and bookkeeping activities.
  • Self-motivation, ability to work effectively without constant or direct supervision, ability to multi-task and work with a team to accomplish goals
  • Good communication and organizational skills
  • Preference given if trained in efinance and COGNOS reporting
  • Good moral character and understands the concept of confidentiality and supports guidelines concerning the release of public information

 

GENERAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Contributes to the workflow of the finance department to ensure timely compliance with deadlines, federal, state, and local legislation, rules, regulations, policies, and guidelines
  • Assist in preparation of budgets, annual financial reports, and cycle reporting
  • Assist in writing policy and procedures for the department
  • Cooperates with other departments if asked to supply information or assist with a project
  • Performs other related duties as assigned, including backup for purchasing and accounts payable functions
  • Assumes responsibility for professional growth and keeps materials, supplies, and skills up-to-date
  • Complies with and supports school district and departmental regulations and policies
  • Other duties as assigned by the Chief Financial Officer, Superintendent or their designee

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Physical Requirements - Must be physically able to operate a variety of equipment including computer hardware and software, phone system, office equipment, etc. Must be able to drive between campuses if needed.

 

Intelligence - Requires the ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions; to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagrammatic form and to deal with several abstract and concrete variables.  

Language Ability - Requires the ability to read a variety of correspondence, technical manuals, trade journals, etc.; requires the ability to prepare reports, forms, system documentation, etc. using prescribed formats and conforming to all rules of grammar.

Verbal Aptitude - Requires the ability to record and deliver information, to explain procedures, to give oral and written instructions. Must be able to communicate effectively. Must possess the ability to speak to people with poise, voice control, and confidence. May be required to deliver effective presentations to both small and large audiences.
