General Summary: The Deputy Superintendent serves as designee in the absence of the Superintendent; provides leadership and direction to departments to ensure alignment and attainment of strategic plan objectives and goals; represents the Superintendent, as appropriate, at official school and community functions; and informs the Superintendent of changes in trends, laws, rules, or regulations. The Deputy Superintendent also advises the Superintendent on issues within the District; communicates with the community and School Board as necessary pertaining to District’s programs; ensures compliance with state and federal regulations; assists in monitoring the District’s budget; oversees Personnel, facilities, and supervise other staff, as appropriate.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities •Serves as a member of the Superintendent’s staff for planning, formulating and recommending policies, practices, and procedures relating to the school district and shares in the general management of the district. •Attends all board meetings and provide reports as needed and/or requested. •Strong knowledge of school finance. •Ability to gather data, compile information, analyze and prepare reports. •Evaluates directly the performance of personnel under his/her direct supervision. •Participates in local, state, and national training development to stay abreast of best research practices, job related assignments, and professional growth. •Advises the Superintendent on the need for new or revised policies and monitors the handbook committees. •Recommends decisions to the Superintendent pertaining to personnel matters related to assignments, transfers, promotions, and dismissal. •Ensures thorough background checks of all applicants, ensures reference checks are done and documented, including social media. •Ensures prompt paperwork, interviewing and pooling of quality, qualified applicants. •Interviewing committee member that reviews and recommends district personnel submitted through the chain of command to the Superintendent. •Assists in the development of the budget. •Oversee facilities, finance and personnel to ensure high quality systemic operation of departments and compliance. •Ensures compliance with building codes, safety regulations, and requirements. •Oversee building projects. •Maintain quality control of repair/buying costs in accordance with budgeted requirements. •Assists with bidding process. •Monitors Substitute training and orientation. •Communicates related work orders status to building coordinators and other staff as needed. •Monitors the quality of work output of those directly supervise and/or through on-site visits. •Assists in monitoring required Professional Development training. •Effectively motivates and communicates new ideas, methods, procedures and techniques to improve supervised departments and/or staff. •Assists in the district’s public relations. •Assists in coordinating legal and quasi legal proceedings for the school district with the designated attorney and various administrative divisions. •Evaluate the performance of assigned personnel in accordance with law, code, and policy. •Assists in the determination of types of programs needed by the District and make appropriate recommendation for student academics. •Supports the Superintendent in the continuous review and revisions of the district’s strategic plan and in concurrent efforts to measure progress towards its attainment. •Appoint and chair committees to address division wide concerns within assigned areas of responsibility. •Provide guidance on academics, instruction, curriculum, course of studies, and teaching and learning •Recommends and monitors improvements/performance of the Technology Program. •Conduct site visits to departments and schools. •Collaborates with the Superintendent to ensure student and employees safety. •Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. •Demonstrates excellent organizational skills and ability to motivate staff. •Proficient in basic computer programs ( MS Office applications, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Email, etc.) •Assists with meetings of teachers and other employees necessary for the discussion of matters concerning the improvement and welfare of the schools. •Assumes all other duties and responsibilities assigned by the Superintendent.
Contacts and Communication •Close collaboration with all administrative and supervisory personnel of the district. Directly or indirectly, every district employee and those who report directly to the superintendent.
Education and Experience •Certificate, license or other legal credential required. •Graduate Degree(s) required and area of major study •Kind and amount of prior job experience required. •Superintendent Certified •Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.

Building Level Administration Experience or District level Experience Superintendent Certification - Required
At least 3 years of relevant experience preferred
Master degree preferred
Citizenship, residency or work VISA in United States required
