Elementary Music Teacher
Must hold proper state license
Teachers employed by this district will be evaluated through the Teacher Excellence and Support System
Responsible for teaching music education to pupils in grades K-3, and assists the staff of the school in the improvement and appreciation of music instruction. Helps pupils grow in their enjoyment, appreciation, and performance of music through a variety of planned music experiences which include singing, moving to music, playing of instruments and listening.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Teach skills in music understanding/appreciation, harmony, explorations in music and choral music to elementary pupils.
Plan/execute a balanced music program and organize class time so that preparation, rehearsal and instruction can be accomplished within the allotted time.
Provide individual and small group instruction in order to adapt the music curriculum to the needs of each pupil.
Encourage students to develop individual musical skills to the greatest extent possible.
Utilize repertoire of all types of music literature, including traditional and contemporary that are appropriate for the ages and skill levels of pupils.
Maintain care/responsibility for school-owned music, musical instruments and equipment to prevent loss or abuse.
Make minor adjustments and requests repairs to instruments as required.
Evaluate each pupil’s musical growth, performance, and musical understanding.
Assess each individual’s contribution to the performance of the group.
Establish and enforce rules for behavior and procedures for maintaining order among the students for whom he or she is responsible.
Observe and evaluate students' performance, behavior, social development, and physical health.
Prepare materials and classrooms for class activities.
Adapt teaching methods and instructional materials to meet students' varying needs and interests.
Establish clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects, and communicate those objectives to students.
Prepare, administer, and grade tests and assignments in order to evaluate students' progress.
Meet with parents and guardians to discuss their children's progress.
Maintain accurate and complete student records as required by laws, district policies, and administrative regulations.
Meet with other professionals to discuss individual students' needs and progress.
Use computers, audiovisual aids, and other equipment and materials to supplement presentations.
Collaborate with other teachers and administrators in the development, evaluation, and revision of school programs.
Prepare reports on students and activities as required by administration.
Attend professional meetings, educational conferences, and teacher training workshops in order to maintain and improve professional competence.
Attend staff meetings and serve on committees as required.
