POSITION TITLE: Secondary 7-12 ELL Teacher


 


FLSA: Exempt


 


QUALIFICATIONS: Must meet AR Teacher Licensure requirements for grades 9-12 and ESL Endorsement (or willing to acquire). 


 


REPORTS TO: Principal & Supervisor of Special Programs


 


TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: A full contract for this position is 190 days, with benefits as specified in employee contract. Contract will be prorated based on actual start date.

LOCATION: Northside High School


 


**An Experience Stipend will be issued for NEW HIRES with three or more years of verified teaching experience. If hired before October 1st of the current school year, the stipend will be $2,000 and will be issued one time after the first full year is complete. If hired after October 15th, but before February 16th, of the current school year, the stipend will be $1,000 and will be issued one time after the first full semester is complete.**


                          


ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS


  • Provide structured language development lessons for EL students in a well-managed classroom.
  • Screen and qualify newcomer English learners for EL services and develop accommodations and scaffolds for learning in content area classrooms.
  • Teach or assist content teachers using a variety of methods, taking into account the need for accommodations and scaffolds specific to the learning needs of English learners.
  • Prepare daily lessons and long-term teaching programs in accordance with state curriculum and guidelines.
  • Establish clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects, and communicate those objectives to students.
  • Evaluate and report on the progress of students, and discuss individual performance and problems with students and parents.
  • Establish and maintain good working habits and discipline in classrooms and throughout the school.

OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS


  • Provide progress reports as required.
  • Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Maintain emotional control under stress.
  • Effectively implement district initiatives.
  • Collaborate with department and grade level teachers.
  • Maintain accurate and complete records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulation.
  • Remain current on instructional practices in education and technology software and digital learning.
  • Attend meetings and perform duties as assigned by administrators or supervisors.
  • Implement a variety of effective instructional strategies consistent with lesson objectives.
  • Evaluates student abilities and progress in a timely and consistent manner.
  • Monitor student progress and adjust instruction accordingly.
  • Plan a program of study that meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of the students.
  • Create a classroom environment that is conducive to learning.
  • Assess the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and provide progress reports as required.
  • Abide by state statutes, school board policies and regulations.
  • Serve on committees as assigned.
  • Must have the ability to lift at least 40 pounds occasionally.
  • Ability to endure prolonged standing, walking, sitting, occasional reaching above the head or  the shoulders, bending, squatting, and kneeling.
