Job Description

Position Title:   Principal of Alternative Education Grades 6-12

Department:    Campus Administration

Reports To:      Director of Students Services

Contract:          2022-2023 School Year

Closing Date:    Until Filled




  • Jacksonville North Pulaski is seeking to develop the premier alternative education program. The successful program Director of ALE/Principal will exemplify the following essential traits. 


  • Exhibits an unwavering commitment to serving scholars from diverse backgrounds and with unique social-emotional needs.
  • Demonstrates unwavering respect for challenging scholars. 
  • Develops cooperative relationships with parents, staff, and service providers to foster academic and social growth. 
  • Equips staff with the knowledge, skills, tools, and vision necessary to foster academic and behavioral excellence for all scholars. 


  • Lead the ongoing development, implementation, and improvement of all elements of the secondary alternative education program. 


  • Valid Arkansas campus administrator license
  • Master’s degree in the appropriate field
  • Educational Leadership experience or training
  • Agree to identify and complete required training for self and staff. 
  • Such other qualifications as the Jacksonville North Pulaski School District may require
  • Career Ready Certificate is Preferred



  • Ability to manage a budget.
  • Ability to identify, hire, and develop personnel to ensure excellent service to scholars. 
  • Ability to interpret policy, procedures, and data to make informed decisions.
  • Knowledge of community agencies/programs that provide services for adolescents
  • Exceptional organizational, communication, public relations, supervisory, leadership, and interpersonal skills.
  • Knowledge of research-based best practices in the intellectual, physical, emotional, and social success of 6-12 students
  • Possess a servant spirit and commitment to creating a premier culture of learning, leadership, innovation and growth.
  • Demonstrate a professional presence when using personal and cooperative social media accounts



  • Exercise supervision over 6-12 Alternative Education campus
  • Maintain authority over all campus staff and programs
  • Be accountable to the Director of Student Services, Assistant Superintendents, and Superintendent.



  • Develop, submit, and implement the Alternative Education Program Description
  • Develop and implement district procedure manual, referral processes, and transition procedures. 
  • Ensure robust implementation of all requirements for scholar placement, program implementation, and transitions. 
  • Coordinate with the campus, ALE, and district personnel to ensure the implementation of special and auxiliary services. 
  • Collaboratively develop, implement, and monitor prescriptive scholar success plans
  • Work with the campus, ALE, and district personnel to ensure scholar success
  • Oversee all matters of student attendance and resolution of chronic attendance problems 
  • Develop and maintain productive relationships with community and governmental agencies in regard to problems relating to drug and alcohol abuse, truancy, homelessness, mental health, and other social and disciplinary issues
  • Coordinate scholar transportation with district and campus personnel.
  • Open and close the campus daily
  • Secure approved substitutes for personnel who are absent
  • Ensure a safe, respectful, responsible, and engaging learning environment
  • Oversee, disseminate, and uphold guidelines that promote student success and govern student behavior and safety
  • Prepare reports to local, state, and federal agencies
  • Provide guidance and motivation for scholars to promote the best version of themselves and reach life goals
  • Provide a nurturing, supportive, accountable, and positive school culture that encourages student responsibility
  • Provide a nurturing, supportive, accountable, and positive work environment that encourages staff responsibility and perpetual improvement. 
  • Work with local, state, and federal resources as needed to meet the educational needs of each scholar
  • Exhibit ethical and professional behavior in working with students, parents, school personnel, outside agencies
  • Lead and supervise summer school. 
  • Direct the ALE Program
  • Coordinate District Career and Technical Education programs.
  • Other related duties, as assigned
